James Bond Actors - Alpha Males of the Big Screen

By Joel Owens

James Bond is machismo personified. After decades of spying, he still hasn't been out of the top fictional characters that hit the big screen. This phenomenon can be attributed to the movie's storyline that sends us to the edge of our seats. But then again, we cannot deny that we love the franchise so much because of the hunk and kick ass portrayal of the chosen ones---the James Bond actors.

To date, 6 actors have already donned the 007 cap and formed a culture of BONDage in the process. Read this roundup of James Bond actors and take your pick as the perfect James Bond.

1. Sean Connery

Almost everyone never thought that Connery can pull off as James Bond, but under the tutelage of Terence Young, the British actor did not only bag the role as a gentleman spy, but is considered as the best James Bond actor to date. His portrayal definitely set the bar for succeeding actors to wear the suit. He starred in the first 7 James Bond movies and most of which are considered to be representative installments of the franchise.

2. George Lazenby

Rising up to the iconic portrayal of Connery proved to be a difficult task for George Lazenby. Without much acting experience and the maturity to face up to the studio setting, the former model was plagued with intrigues for his performance as Bond. Fans have already warmed up to Connery's Bond portrayal, and this presented as another disadvantage for the Lazenby. His awkward performance in On Her Majesty's Secret Service caused him to make his career as a James Bond actor go kaput in just one film.

3. Roger Moore

The 70's marked a changed in Bond's persona. This time, the job as a James Bond actor was taken on by Roger Moore, who apparently made a complete physical transformation to fit the role. The producers of the franchise only agreed to cast him if he shed some pounds and cut his hair short. The director's constant reminder for him to lose more weight caused the actor to muse, "Why didn't they get a thin actor who was bald to do the part?"

Roger Moore made a brave attempt to separate himself from the shadows of the first and iconic James Bond actor, Sean Connery by having a more lighthearted approach to his character. In his term as Bond, we saw a more playful and womanizing Bond in films like Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only among others. Unlike his predecessor, Lazenby, Moore starred in 7 James Bond movies.

4. Timothy Dalton

Dalton's approach to James Bond is very different from Roger Moore's. In two James Bond movies he starred in, he depicted Bond as a more serious, dark and reserved secret agent, a far cry from the flamboyant persona that Roger Moore created. His extreme masculine appeal made fans root for his version of Bond.

5. Pierce Brosnan

Another Englishman took over and this time, we've seen an actor who was never stereotyped as Bond for his acting flexibility. He was able to strike a balance between a tough and flamboyant portrayal of Bond and he just proved himself as a legitimate James Bond actor in 4 films.

6. Daniel Craig

The newest James Bond actor has been criticized for being the first Blonde and blue-eyed Bond. As evident in his portrayal in Casino Royale, Craig plans on having a different take on our favorite secret agent. With a more kick ass and real tough guy depiction of Bond, he finally managed to get the respect of his detractors. Sean Connery even agreed that Craig did a good job in his first James Bond movie. Fans all over the world are already anticipating his comeback as James Bond in Quantum of Solace.

James Bond Villan Quiz

A James Bond Villain Quiz - The Villains Make the Hero?

By Joel Owens

Superman might have larger than life powers to protect the Earth. Daredevil might have superhuman senses to defeat the Kingpin of Crime. Spider-man might be flexible enough to get out of any sticky situation. But then again, when an evil villain is out to cause mayhem on Earth via nuclear bombing or sophisticated biological weapons, only one fictional character sans the superpowers can salvage us from utter destruction: Secret Agent Bond---James Bond.

James Bond, unlike these superheroes, doesn't have supernatural powers or wasn't bitten by a genetically enhanced spider of sorts for him to be called a hero. Known to have the strength, wit, intelligence, charms, seamless gadgets, and of course, his natural appeal to women, he is an unstoppable brute. Agent 007, as he is commonly called, is a human weapon, ready to stop any atomic bomb, morally bankrupt villain or some unnamed armaments to save the world.

The Villain Who Made the Most Movies

The hardest task for the creators of the James Bond franchise must have been the conceptualization nemeses that would be worthy and fit to be up against the most popular secret agent in Hollywood. They must have been in a heated James Bond Villain quiz discussion in order to reincarnate evil at its best to be eradicated by our suave hero in the end.

Ernst Stravo Blofeld is arguably one of the most hated villains to be fought by 007. As an evil mastermind of SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), he aims to take over the world and get truckloads of money in the process of doing so. He appears in 7 major James Bond movies and definitely continues to earn a lot of fans for his pure rashness. This bald, cat-totting and murderous villain is never adamant in annihilating James Bond. Blofeld, with his trademark accent and evil deeds, will be a staple character in any James Bond villain quiz no matter how many other villains might be baked in the oven of the screenplay writer's imagination.

Villains Make Bond, THE James Bond

Villains can give the needed oomph to make someone a hero. In the case of our favorite fictional secret agent, James Bond would have never reached this pinnacle of popularity without these murderous minds out to cause considerable damages to the world. Sure enough, the quality of a James Bond film is contingent upon how evil, downright mean and callous his enemies could get. The more ruthless these villains become the more smashing and appealing James Bond becomes to the box office.

A Look at the New James Bond Movie, Quantum of Solace

A Look at the New James Bond Movie, Quantum of Solace

By Musa Aykac

Well the time has come again for a new bond film to hit our screens. Daniel Craig takes his role as Mr Bond in the latest movie named Quantum of Solace. After outstanding reviews from the first film Casino Royale, can Daniel Craig meet and exceed the expectations that he is facing?

The preceding film before Daniel Craig got cast as 007 was Pierce Brosnan's Die Another Day, in all honestly Brosnan set the dying franchise back to light and delivered some exceptional movies. But as times progresses so must movies, we have seen a darker side to movies as of late, being hugely successful such as the latest Batman movie The Dark Knight. Therefore I believe that was the foremost reason why we have seen a hugely successful bond in Pierce Brosnan replaced.

Daniel Craig's first outing made us see a new darker and moodier side of the character, which ultimately opened the door to a whole new audience and I can assure you that this new outing delivers much more. The violence in the new flick is pushed up to a new level.

The movie starts itself with an awesome car race which was last probably seen in the Bourne Ultimatum and Italian Job movies. You can really see the efforts not only from the producers for making the film, but also from the actors for putting in some very daring stunts. You will be surprised to hear that at least three of the characters have suffered major injuries; with Daniel Craig himself needing eight stitches to his face and also having his finger sliced.

The movie itself is one of the first James Bond sequels to be made, it continues from Casino Royale where Mr Bond is after revenge for the death of his lover Vesper Lynd. But on his route to seek revenge he uncovers a threat in the form of crime organization Quantum. The death toll in the movie does stack up quite a lot, as in one reference M states, "Bond, if you could avoid killing every lead there is, that would be appreciated.". He then gets his licence revoked for not complying.

All in all the film is a must watch and it will probably end up being one of the best action movies that you have watched in a while. This film strips out all of the gimmicks and gadgets and even pulls out the tagline "The name's bond, James Bond", but if you are a 21st century movie fan than this is a heck of a movie that cannot be missed.
